Dear Doctor

Upon reading your prescription I find
you have not directed how the Tapwen, Sago, or [anon] Rod
should be prepaired to eat, though you informed
me how it should be prepaired I believe, but thinking
that you had directed in the prescription, I did
not charge my memory & have forgotten, and
as I find that the water gruel is not very pal
-itable, I feel desirous to try that, the gruel
I make of corn meal, which I suppose is
the way you intended. I discover that the disease has
abated considerably, as I have not had but three eva-
-cuation since I saw you & heretofore I have in
some length of time comonly had [unclear] or 10 passages

Yrs Respectfully

John H. Gordon

PS The gruel I think you directed should be
sweetened a little nutmeg in it, and two tea spoons
of french brandy, is the [way] I prepare it. J. H. G.
