Messrs. Carmichael & Son
Philad May 6, 1829
Gentlemen
The accidental falling aside of your
last esteemed favour must be my excuse for not
having answered it much earlier.-- The alteration
in the mode of settlement to which I alluded was
this, that when you wished several english works
at any one time, I would propose drawing
for the amount in 90 days from the time I
sent the orders to England; this alteration
arises from the different mode of doing
[busi]ness with this country which the
English Booksellers have adopted, they
require, that in general, the bill of exchange be
sent with the order.
You will receive herewith Littells'
Monthly Journal, which I have added to the
account, as Mr. Littell requires payment in advance.
There has been but little of importance published
lately.-- Jackson's Practice is in press, but the time
of publication is very uncertain - I have sent
the English Periodicals regularly & hope they
have been received.-- I am
Gentleman very respecfully
your mo. ob. ser.
Judah Dobson
