Doct Carmichael & Son

Gentlemen

H. O. Middleton has
offered us Lamp Black for the whole or any part
of our claim against him. - We would thank
you to consult Mr Goodwin, and let us know
what you think of [the] safety of the debt. - if there
are any great doubts of its ultimate safety -
perhaps it would be as well to take some
Lamp black if we can agree as to price - but
if the debt is secure we would prefer to let it
have its course - Mr Goodwin will know whether
there are any suits against him or any judgements
that will preceed ours - There was some claim
against him in Mary land, but he may have
settled them after his marriage, has he done so?

You will please show this to Mr Goodwin
(Attorney) and he can give us all the information
asked for - Can you tell us whose store young
Middleton bought out in Lynchburg - we have
two customers there who owe us very large amts,
and about one we feel a little uneasy. -

very respectfully yr ob Servants

Geo H. & J S Keerl
